
Joy Hertz offers weekly guided support sessions both for those who self-abuse as well as for their loved ones.
These 1.5 hour sessions are offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays and will be delivered in the following format:
One Hour Prior to the Session’s Start Time:
- A Joy Hertz Program Leader will prepare the space for the session,
- The space will be devoted to welcoming newcomers; returning attendees will be invited to enter the space fifteen minutes prior to the session’s start time. During this time, newcomers will be greeted by the Program Leader who will offer:
- An overview of what to expect in the session,
- To answer questions and/or address concerns, and
- Guidance surrounding potentially useful resources.
Fifteen Minutes Prior to the Session’s Start Time:
- A Joy Hertz Program Leader will open the space to invite in all session attendees who will be asked to:
- Agree to the Joy Hertz community guidelines,
- Fill out a session attendee sign-in sheet to allow Joy Hertz to measure its community impact,
- Populate a risk assessment to inform which types of resources might be most impactful for attendees, and
- Place their phones on silent.
At the Session’s Start Time:
- The Program Leader will begin the session and will keep the entry open for a ten minute grace period, after which, the session will be closed to additional attendees.
Each 1.5 Hour Long Session will be Held in the Following Format:
- Session Introduction (10 minute grace period):
- Review of Expectations and Norms (5 mins)
- Clarifying Questions and Potential Departures (5 mins)
- Honoring and Celebrating Milestones (5 mins)
- Session’s Guiding Passage Read and Reflected on by Program Leader (5 mins)
- Open Reflection on the Session’s Guiding Passage Invited (60 mins)
- Session Closure:
- Expression of Gratitude, Opportunity for Reflection (5 mins)
- Guided Meditation (5 mins)
One Hour After the Session:
- The space will be devoted to offering an open resource hour, wherein the Program Leader will be available to answer questions, support community members, and offer a kind ear in a brave, safe, and warm environment.
